Early to middle Holocene



  • Northern Hemispheric summer insolation was higher in July than presently and consequently summer temperatures were higher.


  • At 9 Kyrs ago summer temperatures were 2-4 degrees higher than presently in N - America and Eurasia, except just south of the ice sheets.


  • At 6 Kyrs ago the ice sheets had melted and despite summer insolation being lower than at 9Kyrs, temperature remained 2-4 degrees higher than presently.

  • But winter insolation was lower than presently.

    When the suns shines during the day, the land warms up more than the ocean does.
