Title "Investigating new control methods to mitigate the attack of the Ambrosia Beetle Anisandrus dispar in intensive apple orchards of South Tyrol" During the last years the ambrosia beetle Anisandrus dispar F. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) became one of the most important pest of apple and nut orchards. A considerable increment of the attack of this beetle has been observed in the apple orchards of South Tyrol, Italy. The infested trees, show suffering symptoms together with a lower fruit production and holes on the bark, caused by the bore activity of the insect. The aim of this project, carried on in collaboration with Dr. Manfred Wolf of the Laimburg Research Centre (Ora, Italy), is to compare conventional methods of mass trapping (Rebell rosso® traps in combination with ethanol) with a novel system adopted from one already in use for timber protection against forest bark beetle species, as the Storanet® (BASF, Germany). I will evaluate and compare the efficacy to attract and kill A. dispar of the two different trapping systems. |
