In the particular educational environment of the Faculty of Design and Art of the Free University of Bolzano, characterised by a close interaction between professional design and the manufacturing world, the students can develop their creativity and talent, and are often able to create a series of objects with great impact and design value. It would be a shame if the realisation of these projects remained only a dream. On the initiative of Dean Kuno Prey a group of students was formed to try and realise these projects. With the close cooperation of design student Nicola Gotti as well as Arnbjörn Eggerz, a recent graduate of the Faculty of Economics, a platform has come into being, for the management and distribution of a selection of projects developed by students over the last few years. The name that has been given to this unusual and daring initiative is fucina (forge),
because, just as with pieces of iron, it is there that these newborn ideas,
still incandescent and forgeable, can be refined and polished, thus developing a project that is mature for the market.
fucina comprises a series of small (and not so small) objects for the home, office and person, accessories that make everyday life pleasant, brightening our leisure time activities such as reading, and conveying comfort, pampering us, and giving us light and warmth.
For more than a year, the projects of the fucina collection, designed and produced by some design students of Bolzano, were successfully distributed through selected shops and sold online. From now on, some of the objects can be bought directly from the designers; you will find their e-mail addresses under “contacts”.
fucina was intended as a small start-up enterprise helping young designers to take their first steps in the design profession.
