Tourism meets Philosophy (TMP)
October 15-16, 2015

On the role of authenticity in tourism from the past to the future: an interdisciplinary analysis

Authenticity: from self-realisation to valuable resource

Authenticity is a complex matter and debates about the meaning of authenticity have been occurring in many disciplines. An analysis of the most recent tourism literature on authenticity does not show a unified view on the concept and various approaches are proposed leading to different and often contradictory results. The questionability of authenticity cannot be ignored and its awareness should be the starting point of any discussion.
The workshop will bring together researchers working on the complex concept of tourism authenticity from both the practical and theoretical perspective in order to discuss its recent advances.
An interdisciplinary approach, including a philosophical perspective, is taken, since the interaction of different disciplines and methodologies could benefit the progress of scientific achievements and could lead to the identification of the constitutive dimensions of the concept.

The event is intentionally organized in such a way as to favour interaction and to promote formal as well as informal open discussions.
