Research generates new scientifically developed and verified knowledge. It is the driving force of social, technical and scientific innovation in which all design disciplines also participate.
From a classical point of view, a difference has to be made between basic research and applied research. Beyond this an important area of operations, especially in the cultural, social and humanistic field, concerns research, analysis, reasoning and research supported by dialectic discourse, e.g., in the form of scientific and professional essays or also scientific and professionally organised exhibitions (cf. on this, as one example of many, the speculative research of the French architect, social and media theorist Paul VIRILIO). |
